Free talk reveals what Queenslanders think about work

A free public talk will reveal the preliminary results of a groundbreaking population study revealing Queenslanders' views about work.
CQUniversity's Professor Brenda Happell will present the topic, Working for a living or living for work? What do Queenslanders think about work? as part of the Institute for Health and Social Science Research Unplugged series from 6pm-7pm on Thursday, December 9, Parkers Function room, Rockhampton's Criterion Hotel.
Professor Happell, who is Director of the Institute, said it was remarkable Queenslanders have not previously been asked about their general enjoyment of work in a large-scale study.
"We spend such a lot of time at work and most people would agree that work is - for better or worse - associated with health and wellbeing," she said.
"A number of interesting results were found including: those working part time enjoyed work more than full-time and casual; females enjoy and become immersed in their work more than males; professionals enjoy and become immersed in work more than blue collar workers.
"Overall, experiences of work varied widely among Queenslanders, prompting a discussion of how work can be organised better to optimise health and wellbeing."
A selection of finger foods will be provided. To help with numbers for seating and catering, please RSVP via j.douglas@cqu.edu.au or 07 4930 9371.
