Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Engineering a Sunday morning & afternoon 

Central Queensland University is holding an Information Day on Sunday (1 September) for Grade 11 and 12 Students about the university's Engineering Co-op Program in Mackay , Rockhampton, Gladstone, and Bundaberg.

$10,000 is available in scholarships for the program.

A videoconference event, all four Campuses will be linked to hear and watch presentations by industry engineers and students who will explain what co-op is all about.

Visiting 11th and 12th graders will get briefed on what engineers really do and see what it's like to get a co-op job domestically or overseas (between 10% and 25% of CQU co-op students work overseas)..

Ten $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students intending to enrol in CQU Co-op Engineering. (Students must enrol in CQU Co-op Engineering to receive the scholarship payment.).

Two scholarships will be awarded to students selected from the 2002 grade 12 students in high schools in each of the Rockhampton, Mackay, Gladstone and Bundaberg districts. The remaining two scholarships will be reserved for students from other Central Queensland areas..

Scholarships will be based on academic performance in English, Math B and C, and Physics. Students must also show an aptitude for engineering practice skills including teamwork, problem solving and communications. Scholarship candidates attending these information sessions will be assessed for aptitude for engineering practice skills during the day. Those from the Central Queensland region who cannot, due to distance or other personal commitments, attend one of the information sessions are asked to submit with their applications written evidence of professional practice skills. .

Information Day activities start at 9:00AM this Sunday, 1 September.
