Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Graduates hear from leaders in ICT, finance and careers guidance 

CQUniversity graduates heard from leaders in ICT, finance and careers guidance during ceremonies at the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne this week.

In a significant 'dual sector' milestone, the Melbourne ceremony included 13 graduates from the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing provided by HealthTrain, which is now part of CQUniversity.

The guest speaker for Monday's Gold Coast ceremony, which also catered for Brisbane graduates, was Laura Daniels, the Manager Industry Engagement, Business Strategy & Engagement for CITEC, the primary information and communication technology service provider to the Queensland Government.

Guest speaker for Wednesday's Sydney ceremony was Alex Malley, the CEO of CPA Australia, Australia's peak finance and accounting body. Alex is responsible for 19 offices globally and more than 139 000 members in 114 countries.

The Melbourne ceremony guest speaker was Dr Noel Edge, the Executive Director and CEO for Graduate Careers Australia (GCA). For almost 40 years, GCA has partnered with the Commonwealth Government and Australian universities, as a not-for-profit entity, to provide the higher education sector with graduate outcomes research and to provide careers information to the Australian higher education sector.

The Brisbane/Gold Coast ceremony was held on Monday at the Gold Coast Arts Centre, catering for 142 graduates. Campus Director Leadership Award recipients include: Marie Gallienne - Bachelor of Accounting with Distinction; Andere Zubiri - Master of Business Administration with Distinction; Raja Shahzad - Master of Professional Accounting; and Kevin Hohl - Bachelor of Information Technology (Network Services). Bachelor of Accounting with Distinction graduate Gratiela Palade will deliver the closing address on behalf of graduates.

The Sydney ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, catering for 235 graduates. Campus Director Leadership Award recipients include: Chi (John) Lee - Master of Professional Accounting and Linda Kronlof - Bachelor of Business (Marketing) with Distinction.

The Melbourne ceremony was held on Thursday at the Sebel Albert Park's Grand Ballroom, catering for 146 graduates (including the HealthTrain cohort). Campus Director Leadership Award recipients include Yujie Gao - Bachelor of Accounting with Distinction and Navarathne Navarathne - Master of Information Technology with Distinction. Ms Gao will also deliver the closing address on behalf of graduates.
