Gladstone students follow supported pathways into Engineering
Published on 15 December, 2010
Five Gladstone region high school students recently took a step closer to realising their dreams of becoming engineers...
Under a Memorandum of Understanding signed off between CQUniversity and four of Gladstone's secondary schools at the end of last year, Year 12 students this year were provided with an opportunity to apply for a 'Negotiated Entry' into the Bachelor of Engineering at CQUniversity.
Under the agreement, students who successfully apply receive a 'Letter of Notification' upon graduation from Year 12 and have the opportunity to activate this opportunity after the first round of QTAC offers in January.
For some students this provides peace of mind prior to OP scores and QTAC offers coming out. For others it importantly provides an alternate pathway into Engineering studies at CQUniversity.
This initiative was coordinated by Gladstone Region Engineering (GReEn) Careers and is offered to all students from the Gladstone region who are interested in Engineering.
On Thursday December 9, the students who successfully submitted folios were presented with certificates by Dr Alan McPhail, the Dean of Engineering at CQUniversity, to recognise this great achievement.
Dr McPhail congratulated all the students and stated that he looked forward to working with them when they commenced their Engineering studies at CQUniversity next year.
Recipients included Glen Coles, Chantel Selmanovic and Callum Stein from Toolooa SHS as well as Rhys Ferraz and Jordan Felgendrejeris from Gladstone SHS.
Anyone interested in finding out more about this opportunity is asked to contact Richard Ward at GReEn Careers on (07) 4970 7281 or greencareers@cqu.edu.au. More information can also be found at http://www.pathways.cqu.edu.au/.
