Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

CQU Melbourne staff member on new media authority 

CQU Melbourne head of academic programs Professor Gerry Anderson has been appointed to the new Australian Communications and Media Authority.

He is also a current member of the Victorian Higher Education Committee Accreditation Panel.

ACMA will regulate broadcasting, radiocommunications and telecommunications, and will assume all functions previously performed by the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) and the Australian Communications Authority (ACA).

After a first degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Professor Anderson went on to further study and research in Statistics and Mathematical Economics at Latrobe University and in Management Science and Control Systems at Cambridge University (UK).

Professor Anderson has held academic positions as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Mathematics and Computing, Professor and Head of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences, Dean of Engineering and Science and Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

He has made a significant contribution to education in regional Victoria through a range of teaching, research and community activities. He has published across a wide range of disciplines in Statistics, Economics, Information Technology, Community development and Telecommunications.

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Director of Educational and Academic Services at the University of Ballarat in Western Victoria he was a prime mover in making the University and the region synonymous with leading edge developments in Information and Communication Technologies for both education and the community. He was the Foundation Director of both the University Centre for Electronic Commerce and the Centre for e-Health.

In recognition of his services to education and the community, Professor Anderson received a Commonwealth Centenary Medal award in 2003.
