Two CQU Rockhampton staff members were presented with The Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence during the University's holiday celebrations Monday.

"They are role models to other staff of the university," said Vice Chancellor and President Glenice Hancock.

PhotoID:481 Mary Bevis, Special Collection Liaison Librarian, was recognised for building up, promoting and providing access to the Central Queensland (CQ) Collection. The CQ Collection contains resources that are used by a wide cross-section of the University, and its researchers, but it is also accessed and valued by users locally, nationally and internationally.

"Mary's integrity and meticulous care of manuscript material and other historical works reflects an awareness of the great significance of the Collection for all users. She unselfishly devotes time and energy to promoting the CQ Collection and raising public awareness of its existence and importance as an historical source," explained Professor Hancock.

Mary also developed an internet-based guide to the contents of the CQ collection.

Ken Diefenbach, Manager of the Business Intelligence Team at the Information Technology Division was recognised for his achievements as the chief architect of the implementation of the university timetabling systems and his contributions to other information management systems.

"Ken has performed in an outstanding manner to the benefit of the University community - both staff and students. He is articulate, clear-headed and not intimidated by problems, which to some may have appeared insurmountable," said Professor Hancock.

PhotoID:482 Ken, who is widely sought after by national and international universities to present at conferences, is an enthusiastic member of several University committees and has fostered several links within the community as well as other institutions throughout Australia and overseas.

The Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence to General Staff is awarded on a yearly basis and consists of a development grant of $2000 to be used for further professional development and a citation of excellence.
