Curator of CQUniversity's Art Collection Holly Grech-Fitzgerald has been selected as one of five arts professionals to take part in the inaugural Museums & Gallery Services Queensland (M&GSQ) 2011 Pilot Mentorship, Exchange and Fellowship Program.
The pilot program was developed to support paid staff and volunteers in regional Queensland galleries, museums and institutions (outside of Brisbane metropolitan area) to access the expertise of leading cultural institutions in Australia and overseas for the purpose of professional development.
Holly Grech-FitzgeraldHolly submitted one of the many high-quality and diverse applications received by M&GSQ for the pilot program and was successful in securing a position at the National Gallery of Australia (NGA) for a two-week placement period this July. She will be working along side the Australia Prints, Drawings and Illustrated Books Curatorial Department.
"I selected the NGA for its professionalism and its highly respected and comprehensive collection and in particular the Curatorial Department of Australian Prints and Drawings for its distinctively knowledgeable team," Holly said.
"Their experience and knowledge will be very beneficial in managing the CQUniversity Art Collection, as majority of our collection is works on paper.
"This mentorship will assist me in the development of our works on paper collection and their preservation, conservation and presentation. It will also provide me with a greater technical knowledge for safe and efficient storage practices and collections management procedures. Additionally I will be able to observe numerous floor talks and ectures and have access to various documentation from the NGA's collections, exhibitions, education and public programs.
"This experience will provide me with an enormous amount of knowledge and insight and I am really looking forward to the spending time at the NGA."
The M&GSQ 2011 Pilot Mentorship, Exchange and Fellowship Program is funded by Arts Queensland through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
