Changes to use of student e-mail addresses

With increasing on-line delivery across multiple campuses around the world, e-mail is considered an official means of communication at CQU.

The expanding reliance upon e-mail, and problems encountered with up to 30% of e-mails to students being ‘undeliverable’ due to incorrect or disabled addresses, has highlighted the need for a reliable communication channel with students.

PhotoID:3018 In response to this, all students are now being provided with an official university e-mail address/mailbox.

CQU will now send ALL student e-mail communications to the official university e-mail addresses. Students are required to check their CQU e-mail on a frequent and consistent basis (at least once per week).

This is reflected in the new Student E-mail Policy which was approved by the Vice-Chancellor to provide guidance on the allocation, responsibilities, expectations and use of student e-mail. This policy can be obtained from http://policy.cqu.edu.au.

CQU Student e-mail addresses will be in the form of studentnumber@student.cqu.edu.au, and can be accessed via the new Student Portal interface at http://mycqu.cqu.edu.au, that provides a new and greatly improved e-mail system, which is very similar in functionality to Microsoft Outlook.

PhotoID:3019 All e-mail addresses that were already entered into e-rolment have been kept for use as alternative means of communications. Students can continue to record alternative e-mail addresses with e.rolment in the same way they can record multiple contact phone numbers.

To assist in managing e-mail communications, the size of the student mailbox will be increased from 50Mb to 100Mb.
