Janelle hopes STEPS will be bedrock of new career

A lifelong passion for rock and fossil collecting underlies Janelle Williams' career aspirations. She's keen to study an Associate Diploma of Geoscience with a view to travelling the world examining ancient geological formations.
This is no small leap for the mother of six and carer to her partner who has a disability, but CQUniversity's STEPS program (Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies) has created a pathway into degree-level studies.
Janelle intends to do some interim Chemistry studies via WIST (Women Into Science and Technology) before embarking on her degree next year.
She has previously worked as a supermarket checkout operator but found herself unfulfilled until she heard about STEPS.
"I was standing at a checkout and thinking this isn't what I want to do with my life."
Janelle is among a group of students who celebrated their completion of the STEPS program in Rockhampton last Friday (Oct 15).
