Teaching with Seoul

Central Queensland University’s Bachelor of Learning Management (BLM) program attracted the attention of academics from around the world at a recent conference in Seoul, South Korea.

CQU Gladstone lecturer and education sub-dean, Dr Beverley Moriarty attended the conference where she co-presented a session on CQU’s innovative teacher education program, the BLM.

Dr Moriarty said her experience at the conference, hosted by Seoul National University, confirmed that CQU’s teacher education students are at the cutting edge of their profession.

“The BLM program is a model that some overseas universities are currently looking at with interest.

“Our teacher education program generated a lot of attention throughout the conference because we have already put in to practice what the other universities are wanting to do,” said Dr Moriarty.

Universities in the United States, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and many other countries have recognised the need to make their programs more relevant to teaching in the real world and develop greater partnerships between universities and schools.

“CQU was able to provide the other universities with specific and practical information on how to create a teacher education degree that is designed specifically for the new conditions and type of society expected in the new millennium,” said Dr Moriarty.

The BLM was first introduced in 2001 and all four years are offered at the Gladstone campus.
