Uni seeks remedy for reduced network capacity to Bundaberg

CQUniversity is experiencing disruption of its communications links to and from CQUniversity Bundaberg, largely due to external factors (beyond the University's control) that are limiting network capacity on the University's microwave connection to Rockhampton.

Whilst the University investigates and addresses that issue, it is working separately with Telstra to increase the University's capacity on its back-up fibre link to Bundaberg, which should increase capacity and ensure stability to operations. That may take up to 6 weeks or more to complete. In the meantime, the University has taken intermediate steps to reroute traffic so it can improve the reliability of its e-learning, phone and email connections to Bundaberg.

Peter Edwards, Director of the University's Information Technology, acknowledged that the recent network problems had caused significant disruptions and distress for Bundaberg Campus staff and students and apologised for the disruptions. He did say, however, that  CQUni's Information Technology Division is taking every measure to restore and establish a more robust and reliable connection to Bundaberg as soon as possible.
