CQU graduate Darryn Nufer has been appointed the new chief of staff of Rockhampton’s daily newspaper, The Morning Bulletin.
Rockhampton born and bred, the 26-year-old Bachelor of Communications (Journalism) graduate has been a journalist at the Rockhampton Bully since 2001.
In that time, he has covered all facets of reporting, forging a reputation for fairness and accuracy while proving himself to be a talented and versatile writer, and has broken some of the big stories of recent years.
Editor Frazer Pearce said Mr Nufer was the outstanding candidate for the position and had done a fine job as acting chief of staff since December.
"Darryn has an infectious passion for finding great news stories and he has displayed excellent leadership qualities since taking on the job," he said.
Mr Nufer said his new appointment was the highlight of his career to date and he was excited about the challenges ahead.
“My career as a journalist started here at The Bully shortly after I graduated from CQU,” he said.
“My 3 years of study at CQU really set the platform for me to go on and achieve what I have as a journalist.
“I must give credit to a couple of my former uni lecturers actually for what they taught me - in particular Professor Alan Knight, and especially Jeff Young, who is sadly no longer with us.
“Jeff had an amazing gift, in that not only did he have a great knowledge of journalism, but he made learning about the profession interesting and fun. On top of that he was just a top bloke.”
