Director of the Centre for Social Science Research Associate Professor Stewart Lockie will also run the 8km individually - he came third at last year's event.

The fun run will kick start the Sports Expo at the Rockhampton Showgrounds which aims to showcase a range of sports on offer in the region.

CQUniversity Community Engagement Officer Tamsen Clifford-Banks said the University wishes our teams the best of luck in the fun run.

"We support our staff in this excellent event which promotes health and fitness in our community."

The University will also hold a Talent Identification Program session as part of the Sports Expo from 9:30am to 1:30pm at the Rockhampton Showgrounds.

The session will involve a series of basic fitness tests that will be recorded on the day and given to the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). The ASC will then look at the results and subsequently identify individuals with great potential within given sports.

Participants of a particularly high standard may be invited to participate in a national development program.

The testing is open to anyone who is keen, with the only restriction being age (between 12-29 years).

Staff will also be on hand to discuss the University's programs in health and human performance.
