Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Students step up for Bundaberg graduation 

More than 70 students will attend this Friday’s (October 15) graduation for the STEPS program at Central Queensland University Bundaberg.

The Skills for Tertiary Education Preparatory Studies (STEPS) program is designed for adults who don’t have a tertiary entrance qualification.

STEPS students can enrol on a part-time or full-time basis to gain the confidence and skills necessary for university-level study.

CQU Bundaberg STEPS coordinator Karen Seary said courses include: Language and Learning 1A and 1B, Transition Mathematics 1A and 1B; Computing for Academic Assignment Writing, and Tertiary Preparation Skills.

“This is a proven successful program with a high retention rate,” she said.
