Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Central Queensland University’s current enterprise bargaining agreements (EBA) expire on 30 June 2003. EBA 4 needs to be in place by that date.

The staff from the Division of Staff and Student Services is currently conducting information forums with staff from each area in the University (by Faculty/Division/ Campus/Organisational area and Central Queensland campus).

“Senior management needs to be informed by your opinions. This is a way to ensure that your opinions are heard. We need to know what people like about the current EBA and what suggestions could improve our workplace,” said Marilyn Van Dyke, Manager, Organisational Development and Change, Division of Staff and Student Services.

The University is encouraging staff to give consideration to the issues that they feel should be included in the enterprise bargaining negotiations next year. Academic and General Staff agreements are available at .
