Sydney lecturer a 'master' of digital art

Andrew Mamo, lecturer in the Bachelor of Multimedia Studies at CQU’s Sydney International Campus, has been selected as a Master Award Winner in digital art for EXPOSI, an annual publication celebrating the talents of digital artists worldwide.

PhotoID:3060 EXPOSI 4 is judged by an internationally-acclaimed panel of artists and creative directors, including Sharon Calahan, Director of Photography at Pixar Animation Studios, Christopher Sloan, Art Director for the National Geographic Magazine, and Dan Curry, Visual Effects Producer for 'Star Trek: Voyager'.

From a selection of over 5000 entries, the advisory board chose 317 of the best artworks from 241 artists in 49 countries.

Andrew’s artwork, titled 'Telluric Form' (pictured above), was selected as an outstanding piece in this collection, being honoured with Master Award Winner status. This image comes from a recent series that Andrew has been working on for the past year.

Another image in the series was also recently Highly Commended for the Toray Digital Creation Awards in Japan, and a print of the image is currently on exhibition in that country.

“One of the more interesting consequences for me as an artist working in the digital medium” says Andrew, “is that while I approach the construction of my images with a method more akin to painting, the final objects are usually regarded as photographs. While some purists might distrust this kind of ambiguity, I find it has greatly widened the scope of opportunity for exhibiting my work both locally and internationally and across a broad range of formats and genres”.

PhotoID:3061 EXPOSI 4 will be published in June this year. A preview of the publication, including samples of the content, can be viewed at http://www.ballisticpublishing.com/books/expose4/awards/ .
