Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

You're welcome for sneak peek at robots 

Everyone is welcome to take a sneak peek at robots due to compete in the first annual CQ Junior Robotics Competition, featuring RoboCup Junior Australia.

Intending competitors will trial their robots from 10am to 3pm on Sunday (July 27) at the CQ Community Sports Centre on Central Queensland University's Rockhampton Campus.

Admission is free of charge.

Technical advisor for the trials will be Damien Kee from the University of Queensland, who is one of the officials for the State/national finals due in Brisbane later this year.

The CQ Junior Robotics Competition for primary and secondary school students will be held on Sunday August 3 at the CQ Community Sports Centre, and admission to the competition is also free of charge.

Details about the CQ trials and the competition are available from Jeni Richardson on 4923 2145. This regional-level event is hosted by the Faculty of Informatics & Communication at CQU.

The RoboCup Junior Competition, has been specifically created for primary and secondary school students. It is an excellent way of introducing and encouraging science and technology among students. At present, RoboCup Junior competitions are now being conducted around the world in 22 countries including Japan, USA, China, Thailand, Britain and Germany. The first Australian National RoboCup Junior Competition was held in 2000. In 2002, the competition has expanded to 443 teams and 2000 students across Australia This year the State and national competition (a combined competition) is being held from September 6-7 in Brisbane.
