Young local artists exhibit at CQU: Regional senior secondary art students' compelling message

An art show featuring the works of three talented Rockhampton school students will open at the Arthur Appleton Gallery at Central Queensland University on Friday 5 April.

PhotoID:40 “The exhibit arrives at CQU Wednesday (3 April) to be uncrated and set-up” said Deann Campbell, the University’s art collection coordinator. Rockhampton State High School student, Sheen Hoare, worked with clay and wire to create sculpture that represents her interests in technology, the environment, and changing values within our society (below). Maryann Harm of Cathedral College used a charcoal drawing to express the fragility of life. Cherie Schweitzer, also of Cathedral College, painted a colourful and textured piece on her reflections on gender issues (right).

These three students are among 45 senior secondary art students who have been recognised by Education Queensland. Their work is featured in the touring exhibition of the Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art.

PhotoID:41 Local residents who want to attend the official opening at 5.30 pm on 5 April should phone the University 4923 2509. The Arthur Appleton Gallery is open 9 am to 4 pm Monday through Friday.
