MBA provides confidence for franchised business

A Master of Business Administration degree from CQU provided a burst of confidence for Richard K.H. Lee to embark on his latest entrepreneurial venture - a franchised printer consumables shop.

Born in Singapore, Richard worked his way up to become a Marketing Manager for electronics giant Philips, before moving to Australia.

He graduated from CQU in September 2005 and started his retail business in Melbourne.

"After almost 3 years, the business is still growing. I achieved Number One in growth among the Victorian franchisees during my second year of operation. Currently I am achieving double digits growth," he said.

"Armed with the MBA training and knowledge, I am able to apply the principles of my learning in my business, especially in marketing and finance. I just started hiring a staff so the human resource subject will come in handy.

"Operating my own business has given me the opportunity to explore a broader range of my study disciplines, compared to my time working for others.

"In business, I have to strategise for my growth, work out my business plan within my budget constraint and put them into action to bring them into fruition."

Richard is married (to pharmacy assistant Suzannah) and has 2 teenage sons. The family enjoys attending church together.

Despite his busy life, Richard does manage to get away to play golf occasionally and also makes himself available to friends and family members who need help setting up computers or computer networks.
