A wide variety of musical styles and performers will be offered, from solo artists to bands, choirs, dance groups and clowns, with acts up and down historic East Street between Denham and William Streets.

Rockhampton Tourism and Business Information General Manager Tony Cullen said that the QREX celebrations offered the opportunity to do something special.

"East Street Comes Alive gives both locals and visitors to Rockhampton a chance to see some great free entertainment and to have a fun and affordable night out in the city. We'll have over 30 different acts playing everything from Jazz to Country, Blues and Rock and Roll so there will be plenty to see and hear for all tastes and ages."

Activities for children will include rides and free face painting as well as magic and puppet shows.

Central Queensland University's Bachelor of Performing Arts students will also be featured as they showcase their emerging street theatre skills.

The Oxford Hotel will also have its beer garden open for traditional Friday after-work drinks and entertainment.

Tony Cullen urged locals to support the East Street Comes Alive as a possible new addition to the event calendar in Rockhampton.

"There's no question that Central Queensland has a tremendous amount of talent in the arts. An event such as this that focuses on the ancient art of busking provides an entertaining way to get our great musicians, singers, dancers and performers out in front of the public."

The event commencing from 5pm and running until 7:30pm Friday May 25 will coincide with late night shopping and a free sausage giveaway in the mall area. Other catering options in the CBD will also be open later than usual.

East Street Comes Alive is free event open to the public in conjunction with the resources and mining expo QREX.

There are plenty of things to do during QREX and many are free of charge.
