CQU's Bachelor of Learning Management students will host Romp in the Park 2008 to celebrate Under Eights Week on Friday May 30 at the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens from 9am to 1pm.

Romp in the Park is one of the most popular events on Rockhampton's calendar and offers a variety of fun, educational activities, live entertainment and a large range of information services focusing on young children and families.

Young children will have the opportunity to experience water play, Lego construction, face painting, flower painting, magnet fishing and lei making, while balloons will be plentiful.

Under Eights week is a week of celebrations organised annually by the Early Childhood Australia Queensland Branch and has been a unique state-wide event since 1956.

As part of this event, representatives from the early childhood community come together to celebrate and promote early childhood services within the community.

This year the theme will be ‘Our Children, Our World, Our Future.'

CQU, along with other childhood education groups, hopes to promote the value of early childhood education and the importance of play-based learning in our community.

Bundaberg BLM students will also participate in an Under 8s event at Moore Park State School on Friday May 23 from 9am - 11am.  About 150 children from prep to grade 3 are expected for this event.

The students have organised 3 activities including a drama activity (simulating a turtle's experience in the environment), a sensory activity (making a garden), and a creative activity (making a collage out of natural materials).

Also to celebrate Under 8s Week, CQU Gladstone BLM students will host an Art Show of local students' artwork at the Leo Zussino Building on Thursday May 29 at 6pm to 8.30pm.
