CPA president visits CQU Bundaberg

The Queensland President of CPA Australia visited CQU Bundaberg on Thursday 1 August.

Head of Campus Alex Grady said the afternoon was a great opportunity for students and staff to meet State President Suzy Byrne as she visited regional Queensland. Ms Byrne is also a senior lecturer with the University of Southern Queensland He said it was timely that the visit coincided with the appointment of a full-time lecturer in accounting and finance.

PhotoID:203 “Stacey Cunningham completed her undergraduate accounting degree here in Bundaberg in 1999 and commenced a 12-month research project for the Bundaberg City Council. She is currently the faculty scholarship award holder for Business and Law and her PhD research is in corporate environmental disclosure behaviour,” Professor Grady said.

“We are especially pleased to welcome Stacey on board because there is a general absence of academics with PhD qualifications in accounting and finance. I think it is great that we have academics who have worked in the local community sharing their knowledge and expertise in their faculties, teaching the leaders of tomorrow.

He said CQU Bundaberg had always recognised the importance of business and accounting degree courses.

“The very first degree offered 14 years ago was a Bachelor of Business delivered to 40 students,” Professor Grady said.

CQU Bundaberg now has 210 students enrolled in business orientated degree programs. “Like Mrs Byrne we recognise the value of the regional areas and hope to continue to deliver high quality degrees which ensure our graduates are ready for the workforce,” Professor Grady said.

“It is impressive that CPA Qld is the only professional organisation that takes the trouble to visit CQU Bundaberg every year to meet with members and students. It shows a strong commitment to the professional development of accountants after they graduate.
