Number-cruncher image sells us short, say accountants

Accountants are not just number crunchers. They are dynamic financial specialists who are vital to the success of a variety of companies. large and small.

That is according to the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia and CQUniversity which are holding accountancy days for high school accounting students (Rockhampton held May 11, Gladstone coming on May 18 and Bundaberg coming on May 20).

The traditional view of accountants can be a little unflattering. Words such as ‘boring' often spring to mind.

But the reality is far from dull - being a Chartered Accountant opens the door to more roles in more industries than any other business discipline.

Accountants are also set to experience faster than average employment growth in the next 2 decades, according to international labour statistics.

Starting salaries for chartered accounts in Australia are excellent (about $40,000) and it is an occupation you can take anywhere in the world.
