Computer novices through to technological whiz kids will find something of interest at this weekend’s Mackay Computer and Technology Expo 2003.
Hosted by Mackay Internet portal RegionLINK, the inaugural event includes two days of non-stop presentations and activities.
RegionLINK steering committee chair and Central Queensland University information systems lecturer Rod Jewell said the event reflects the growing interest in computer technology.
“There is an increasing knowledge of how computers and technology can assist with improving productivity in Mackay, so the expo has been designed to enhance the existing skills of users,” he said.
“The two-day event includes presentations for business oriented users through to family and personal users.” Guest speakers include Ray Shaw, weekly talk-back computer expert on the ABC and help desk columnist in Saturdays Courier mail; John Sheridan from Digital Business Insights, Microsoft Training Manager Jack Alsop; Mike Harte, CEO VoIP; ABC Tropical North presenter Anne O’Keeffe, Mackay Sugar’s IT Manager Geoff Fleming; and Commerce Queensland’s Regional Manager for Mackay Thomas Rosier. Presentations run from 10am November 7 to 5pm on November 8 at Central Queensland Institute of TAFE in Sydney Street. Tickets for the expo dinner on Friday evening are still available by telephoning 4940 7421.
