New web page services students better

Central Queensland University’s Student Ombudsman web page has been radically revamped to better service students.

Student Ombudsman Peter Hallinan said he believed the new web page would communicate more effectively the work of the Ombudsman’s office.

Peter said the University established the office because it puts a high priority on servicing the needs of students and making sure every member of the community is treated fairly and equitably.

PhotoID:426 “I am one of many people at CQU committed to making sure students get the outcome they deserve,” he said.

Manager of Student Finance Doug White said if his department was unable to assist students with fee disputes he referred them to the Student Ombudsman.

“In the past we tried to explain the role of the Ombudsman to the student verbally, but with the creation of the website we can now also refer them there as well,” Doug explained.

“I have found the information contained on the site to be helpful to both ourselves here in Student Finance and also to the students.

“I believe it to be a positive step in providing our students with information that enables them to be informed of their rights and also is a positive addition to the support network provided by the University for our students.

On the new site, http://www.cqu.edu.au/ombudsman/, you will find some further information about what Peter does. You will also find some information about other areas in the University who can help solve your problems.

“Consider me as your ‘last port of call’. First contact the Student Association, and then the Faculty or Division regarding your concern. Contact me after that, if you feel your issue is still unresolved.

Any individual student or a group of students are welcome to speak with the Student Ombudsman.

Peter can be contacted about any problem related to the University including: problems related to your grades; disagreements with your instructors; administrative problems; situations where you feel you have been treated unfairly; or problems with your fees.

All communications are confidential.
