Uni of 3rd Age members try plant propagation
Published on 31 May, 2005
University of the 3rd Age (U3A) members attended a plant propagation workshop conducted by CQU Rockhampton staff Dr Nanjappa Ashwath and Noel Sawtell.
Participants were shown the techniques of propagating plants via cutting, budding, grafting, layering and tissue culture.
They had the chance to practice some of the techniques and received guides to the principles and procedures of propagation.
Many of the participants are experienced gardeners and some are keen on growing native plants, which are often difficult to propagate.
The participants also inspected the newly-established 'Native Plants in Landscaping' project near the flag poles on campus and the tissue culture facility that the Plant Sciences Group recently established.
U3A organiser Joy Agius thanked CQU for assisting U3A members with plant propagation and giving them an opportunity to see scientific experiements being undertaken at the University.
