High school students from across the Mackay region put their science hats on for the CQUniversity Science Quiz this week.

The Quiz attracted 18 keen competitors who worked in teams vying for the top award.

Winners of the Science Quiz Mackay Christian College's Brad Nichols, William Napier and Nicholas Buttler.After an extremely close final, Mackay Christian College took out the top award, with Mackay State High School's Alpha team placing a close second.

Third place was awarded to Mercy College's Metal Maniacs team. An encouragement award was presented to Collinsville State High School.

CQUniversity's Terri-Anne Muscat said the Quiz was a very successful event.

"We received many comments from teachers and parents saying how important it was for their students to compete in events like this one," Ms Muscat said.

"It is a fabulous way to engage students in science and encourage them to a career in science."

Runner-ups Mackay State High School's James Quirk, Blessing Chabata and Diana Nicholson with CQUni's Delma Clifton. 

Third place getters were Mercy College's Lachie Walker, Michelle Baron and Stephanie Said. They are pictured here with Delma Clifton. 

Collinsville School students Katelyn Marshall, Courtney Sibson and Andrew Hannan received an encouragement award at the quiz.
