Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Where there's a Will there's a way at Wellness Centre 

Dr Will Reimer brings a range of skills to his position as the new Director of CQUniversity's Psychology Wellness Centre.

He grew up in Canada and completed a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Counseling prior to completing a PhD in Clinical Psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology.

With specialties in community, forensic, and geriatric psychology, Dr Reimer has worked in psychiatric hospitals, correctional institutions, substance abuse treatment centres and in private practice.

He has also taught tertiary courses in psychopathology, assessment of children and adults, research methods and statistics and has supervised postgraduate students in clinical and research placements.

"I really enjoy working with students and look forward to the new challenge of being a part of the Wellness Centre Team and working with the students on campus," Dr Reimer said.

"I favour an interdisciplinary approach to treatment and research and I look forward to partnering with some of my CQUni colleagues in other disciplines to provide a robust research environment whereby we can model and engage the students in interdisciplinary research and learning."

Dr Reimer has published in international journals in the areas of Willingness to Die for One's Country and Religion, Death Attitudes, Neuropsychology, Curative Factors in Group Therapy, and the Effectiveness of Solution-Focused Therapy

In addition to his academic activities he enjoys many sporting activities including ice hockey, golf, tennis, football (Canadian Style), soccer, basketball and volleyball. He's also a scuba instructor-level diver, a photographer and an award-winning published poet.
