CQ region students can mingle with movie makers

Students enrolled in CQU's Bachelor of Digital Innovation (BDI) have the chance to mingle with film industry professionals, thanks to initiatives by one of their lecturers, Dr Steve Pace.

Dr Pace has earlier this year hosted a seminar by Bruce Carter from Animal Logic (the creators responsible for creations such as 'Happy Feet', 'David Tench Tonight', 'The Matrix' and 'Moulin Rouge').

A date will be set soon for a seminar by Dana Peters, Head of the Creatures Department at Weta Digital (known for its Oscar winning 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy and 'King Kong').

The event will be in Mackay but will be open to BDI students from other locations.

Dr Pace has also been scouting the movie set of 'Australia', seeking permission for CQU BDI students to have a look at the movie-making process in Bowen while Baz Luhrmann and his team are still around.

He hopes to hear back soon about opportunities for visits to the set and in the meantime has taken many photos of the movie being shot.
