International rodeo ropes in CQU distance student

A Central Queensland University professional communication student is making her mark on the international rodeo scene.
Courtney Beaumont has been selected to complete with the Australian team at the National Students Rodeo Association (NSRA) event in Illinois, USA, in July.
The young distance education student from Curra, near Gympie, said the rodeo was the biggest of its type in the world with over 1500 students from Canada, America and Australia competing.
Catching 2 out of 3 calves at the qualifying rounds in Dubbo earlier in the year, Courtney is keen to ride with the best at the NSRA event.
The event winner will not however be awarded with cash, but a scholarship which Courtney hopes could help with her degree and enable her to focus on her breakaway roping talents.
"I am hoping to get a scholarship out of the trip," Courtney said.
"I don't know our chances, but we have a good team this year, so hopefully we will do OK."
Courtney and the Australian team face one disadvantage in the competition in that they will be competing on horses they would have only known for a week, against people who have been riding their horses for years.
"It is a big advantage to know the horse you are riding."
Courtney is currently raising funds to help with her travel expenses. If you can help Courtney with her efforts you can call her on 0401 084 681.
