Rockhampton women encouraged to explore 'smart housing' options

Rockhampton women are being encouraged to attend a free ‘Smart Women – Smart Housing’ event on Saturday (September 18).

The seminar will help women make the best choices when buying, building or renovating houses.

It will be facilitated by Professor Elizabeth Taylor AO, Dean of the James Goldston Faculty of Engineering and Physical Systems at Central Queensland University.

“Smart Housing is all about good practice in designing, planning and building liveable homes to make them more socially, environmentally and economically sustainable,” Professor Taylor said.

“By carefully planning now you can make the right choice for you and your family for every stage of your life. The key elements include universal design, safety and security and cost-efficiency.”.

The seminar will include a tour of the nearby research house which shows the application of smart housing principles. CQU was instrumental in development of the research house.

This event, backed by Zonta International, Year of the Built Environment 2004 and the Queensland Government, will be held from 2pm-5pm at the Rockhampton High School Assembly Hall. Registrations are limited and close on September 13.

Places can be reserved via Engineering-enquiries@cqu.edu.au or 4930 9733 or by mail to Smart Women c/o Engineering Reception, CQU, Rton, 4702.
