Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Record graduate numbers at CQU Mackay Graduation Ceremony 

Central Queensland University Mackay hosted its largest Graduation Ceremony on Saturday. A capacity crowd watched as 140 graduates were presented with their testamurs at the Mackay Entertainment Centre. Education & Creative Arts graduate Bernadette Venables was awarded the Mackay Campus Graduation Medal.

CQU Mackay Head of Campus Phillip Clift was thrilled by the support offered to graduates.

“The crowd were extremely enthusiastic about sharing this special day with their loved-ones and friends,” he said.

Education & Creative Arts Faculty Sub-Dean, Associate Professor Bruce Knight, said graduate Meredith Shea flew from England to attend the ceremony and returned the following day.

As the event’s guest speaker Mackay Mayor Julie Boyd shared anecdotes from her university experience. Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music educators Dimitri Kopanakis and Judith Brown performed during the ceremony.
