CQUniversity researcher Judith Applegarth's paper on 'assisted reproductive technology nursing' has been awarded at a Rome meeting and earmarked for a conference in Tampa, Florida.
The paper which positions Australian research in the global context won the 'Exchange Award for Nurses' category at the European Society of Human Reproduction & Embryology (ESHRE) annual meeting in Rome from June 27-30.
Judith Applegarth's award includes support to deliver her presentation in Florida
PhD candidate Judith had beaten the odds just to have the paper accepted for the ESHRE event. Only 239 papers were accepted for presentation out of a total of 1037 reviewed.
The award-winning paper based on Judith's PhD research is now being welcomed in an extended format for the 2010 International Nursing Conference on Reproductive Health and Infertility in Florida from September 15-17, with travel costs covered thanks to the Rome award.
Judith's research relates to her work as a nurse and manager at the Rockhampton and Townsville facilities operated by Monash IVF.
She says she was "almost speechless" about the award and had established important networks thanks to the presentation.
Judith's PhD research is supervised by Dr Trudy Dwyer and Associate Professor Lorna Moxham.
