The verdict is in.
CQUniversity's new Bachelor of Laws degree is ready for its first intake of students, having just received news of its professional accredition.
"It's great news for the region," according to Rockhampton's Senior Counsel Graeme Crow.
"For a long time Central Queensland's legal profession has not been able to access enough graduates to meet its needs. With CQUniversity's new program we now will be able to recruit quality graduates to the region."
CQUniversity will begin delivering courses in its Bachelor of Laws degree from term 1 of 2011.
The unique law program includes a comprehensive and intense suite of courses packed into a 3-year, full-time or six years part-time degree offered via distance education.
"CQUniversity is renowned for offering quality programs via distance education and I expect that this new Laws degree will prove to be as successful," Mr Crow said.
Laws Program coordinator Robert Fisher said the new program offered Central Queenslanders an opportunity to enter the legal profession without having to transfer to a metropolitan area or study through a university unrepresented in the region.
CQUniversity has campuses and staff easily accessible throughout the region, as well as library and academic resources.
"The new Bachelor of Laws degree has been designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they'll need to have a successful career in law," Mr Fisher said.
"Our program will give students an insight and understanding in many different forms of law that affect our everyday lives."
"One of the many benefits of this program is that it will be offered online, enabling a lot more flexibility for students.
"Student can also complete the degree in just three years, rather than the four or more years it takes to completed most other undergraduate law degrees."
On completing this Bachelor of Laws program and a period of practical legal training, graduates will be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner. Graduates can pursue careers as solicitors, barristers and in-house counsels; however legal degrees would also benefit those seeking careers in business, in the public service, merchant banker, diplomats and politicians.
