Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Public welcome at Idiom 23 magazine launch 

Volume 15 of the Idiom 23 literary magazine will be launched by Morning Bulletin editor John Schalch at Rockhampton’s Old District Court, East Street, at 5pm on Friday, June 27.

The magazine has been published by CQU staff and students since 1987.

PhotoID:755 All contributors, winners of 2002 Bauhinia Awards and community members interested in contemporary writing have been invited to join in the party.

Dr Geoff Danaher, CQU lecturer in communication and creative writing has edited this year's magazine.

The cover's beachscape (right) is by talented photographer Duncan Bourne while Keith Healey, Kevin Tharp and David Hilcher have contributed camera shots for the back cover - all under the design mastership of Dave Downer.

Striking photos of university international students taken by Keith Ireland are another pictorial feature.

Among the winning stories published are local entries by Lisa Harbinson, Stephen Jahnke, Christina Hunt, Rita Treka, Gillian Butler, Elaine Courtman, Neville Tickner and Warwick Edwards.

Poetry writers included Kath Austin, Kathryn Webb, Terril George and Muriel Courtney.

Young people from Central Queensland who did well in last year's competition include Alysha Eitel of Goovigen and Pelin Dundar of Westlake, Alice Buckingham, Calman Drysdale, Kristie Amadio and Ayrial Mamminio.
