Uni helps research views on council changes
Published on 14 May, 2007
CQU is helping with a survey of Fitzroy and Mount Morgan shire residents, which seeks to examine community views on local government amalgamations and boundary changes.
Residents of Mount Morgan and Fitzroy Shire are invited to share their views on proposed changes stemming from the Size, Shape and Sustainability review of Queensland Local Government.
Mount Morgan Shire Council has engaged the services of independent researchers from Central Queensland University in Rockhampton with an aim to providing a comprehensive examination of community attitudes towards current and alternative shire boundaries and to engage with the community to seek local opinions and attitudes towards local governance.
CQU researchers will contact a random sample of households between the hours of 10:30am to 2:30pm during the day and 4:30pm to 8:30pm in the evenings in order to ensure that residents have an opportunity to voice their opinion.
The findings from the research will assist the community in demonstrating their attitudes and opinions about the key issues raised in the Size, Shape and Sustainability initiative, and with local government governance in general.
The recommendations from the research will have the potential to serve local government, regional development organisations, businesses and communities to assess their strategies and design actions for the betterment of the region.
The research will inform the Mount Morgan Shire Council submission to the Queensland Local Government Reform Commission.
