Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Kieren Perkins guest speaker for CQU Melbourne graduation 

Olympian Kieren Perkins OAM is the guest speaker for CQU Melbourne's graduation ceremony at the Melbourne Town Hall from 2pm on May 8.

The champion swimmer and former Young Australian of the Year (1992) will address 308 graduates from 21 different countries across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Pacific.

Saman Surendralal Vidyananda will deliver the response by the graduates' representative.

Chancellor Rennie Fritschy and Vice-Chancellor and President Professor John Rickard will officiate.

Kieren Perkins' exploits as a swimmer are well known but today, he brings his courageous spirit to the corporate world.  He was appointed to the Australian Swimming Commission (ASC) Board in November 2000 and the Board of Swimming Australia Ltd in December 2002.  His sporting achievements were acknowledged and honoured through his appointment as an Executive Board member to the World Olympians Association in December 2003 and his induction into the exclusive International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2006 he was re-appointed to the board of the ASC, Australia's primary national sports administration and advisory agency. In addition, he is a corporate ambassador for a number of national high profile companies.
