The Administrator of the Northern Territory, His Honour Ted Egan AO hosted a reception and book launch at the Northern Territory Government House on Thursday February 23 for the CQU Press title: 'Indigenous Community Development and Employment'.
Over 40 people responded to special invitations including the Vice-Chancellor of Charles Darwin University (CDU), Professor Helen Garnett PSM and Ross Springolo of CDU.
There was a strong contingent of Tiwi people, headed by former MP Hyacinth, whose photo appears on the front cover of the book together with author Professor Don Fuller’s daughter.
The book is an economic analysis of Indigenous communities producing self-managed projects for self-employment, mainly in the Northern Territory.
CQU Chancellor Rennie Fritschy said CQU was proud to be the publisher of this book and he also drew attention to other titles by CQU Press on Aboriginal art and life stories.
The Administrator Ted Egan, in launching the book, drew on his extensive experience in caring for indigenous people in the Northern Territory in the last 40 years, to make some incisive comments on the path forward.
At the conclusion of the ceremony CQU Press publisher Professor David Myers handed complimentary copies of the book to the senior Tiwi representatives.
