CQU schedules weeknight ceremonies to bring graduation dates into alignment

Central Queensland University has favoured weeknights over weekends to bring into alignment the schedules for graduation ceremonies across 12 locations in Australia and overseas in 2007.

In 2006, CQU conducted 20 graduation ceremonies, at various locations.  While 8 of these 20 ceremonies were held on a Saturday, including the ceremonies held in Rockhampton, the remaining 12 ceremonies were held on weekdays, at various times.

The University carried out research in late 2006 to check the graduation schedules of other Australian universities and found that most of them held weekday ceremonies.

For 2007, it has been determined that the Bundaberg, Gladstone, Mackay, Noosa and Rockhampton ceremonies will be brought into alignment with the other ceremonies and will be held on weeknights.   We hope that graduates will enjoy the cooler evening ceremonies.

While we recognise that this may not be suitable for all graduates, it cannot be assumed that a Saturday ceremony is any more suitable for many graduates.

CQU provides its graduates with many options with regard to ceremony attendance and we offer ceremonies in 12 different locations in order to try to provide every graduate with the opportunity to attend a ceremony.

The full Schedule of graduation ceremonies is located at:  http://www.cqu.edu.au/studinfo/admin/graduation/ceremonies.htm

We hope graduates will be able to find a suitable date to attend to celebrate their achievements.

As graduation ceremony dates are decided in the previous year, it is not possible for the University to accurately predict the number of graduates wishing to attend. It varies greatly from year to year.

The level of demand for tickets to the CQU Rockhampton graduation has required a restriction on guests per graduate in the main hall, with other guests watching from a screening area beside the main venue. All graduates and guests are welcome to partake in the refreshments, enjoy the entertainment and take part in studio photographs.
