Australian rail industry representatives will highlight how their organisations have benefited from Rail CRC research outcomes – reporting millions of dollars in savings in some cases – at a showcase event in Brisbane on June 7.

The Brisbane event, specifically targeting the rail industry, aims to present economic and other benefits from commercialisation and implementation of research outputs by industry.

Speakers will discuss the strategies which could be adopted by industry organisations to maximise their benefits from developed technologies.

This is a final showcase of 6 years of Rail CRC research. The current Rail CRC will wind up operation this year, with the commencement of a newly-funded rail cooperative research centre in July.

Rail CRC CEO Professor Dudley Roach (pictured) said the CRC was proud to present the excellent results from 6 years of extensive research by 6 Australian universities in conjunction with 5 Australian rail industry corporations – Queensland Rail, RailCorp, Pacific National, TMG Rail Technology, and ARTC.

“It’s an exciting time for the Australian rail industry with the opportunity to implement the current CRC’s many research outcomes, and the provision for further industry-driven research,” Professor Roach said.

“All Rail CRC projects are in response to rail industry needs as identified by the CRC’s rail industry partners.

“While many projects have recently completed, our industry partners have in many cases already put the research outcomes to good use.

“Many predict millions of dollars in savings for their organisations with the implementation of the new technology and software.

“I recommend this Showcase event as a must for all rail industry organisations interested in adopting or learning about the latest technology.

“The event will also allow the New Rail CRC to review the intellectual property and technologies available for establishing their portfolio of research projects,” Professor Roach said.

The Rail CRC Showcase event will be held on Thursday June 7 in Brisbane at the Novotel Hotel, Creek St, from 8.30am. Further information regarding the Showcase will be posted on the Rail CRC website at www.railcrc.com.au later this month.

The Cooperative Research Centre for Railway Engineering and Technologies (Rail CRC) was established and supported under the Australian Government’s Cooperative Research Centres Program.

The 6 universities leading the Rail CRC research are Central Queensland University, Queensland University of Technology, The University of Queensland, Monash University, the University of Wollongong, and The University of South Australia.
