Vietnamese visitors talk their way to CQU

Lam anh Vu started learning English from subtitles on Hollywood movies, and still has a slight American accent.

Nguyen (Yen) Minh Dieu spent time at an international (English-focused) school in Thailand as a child, and continued studying the language during her high school years in Vietnam.

PhotoID:1966 The two Vietnamese students arrived at CQU Rockhampton this week as part of their prize for winning an English language competition in their home country.

The 23-year-old Vu, a business administration graduate, followed up his early informal TV training with formal night classes to improve his skills. He is now interested in a career in marketing and advertising.

The 17-year-old Yen has just completed high school and is keen to pursue tertiary education in the areas of Asian studies and economics.

Both visitors said it was their first trip outside Asia.

They will attend some courses at CQU's language centre before 'auditing' lectures in their areas of interest.

The pair will spend three weeks at CQU Rockhampton and one week at CQU Brisbane.
