Professor Bronwyn Fredericks, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Indigenous Engagement) and BMA Chair in Indigenous Engagement, and Dr Marc Broadbent, School of Nursing and Midwifery, both attended the 23rd International Nursing Research Congress (Honor Society of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau International).
Previous CQUniversity academic Professor Lorna Moxham also attended with over 1000 other researchers. The Congress was held recently at the Brisbane Convention Centre. LINK HERE for more details on the Congress
Professor Fredericks co-presented a 75-minute session on ‘Enhancing and Promoting Indigenous Women's Wellness', with Melissa Walker (QUT) and Aunty Honor Clearly and Aunty Selena Seymour (Community Elders).
Their presentation on Day One sought to explore what Indigenous women's social and emotional wellbeing is through Indigenous perceptions, beliefs and knowledge of Indigenous women's wellbeing experiences, and to describe major themes centred around wellness and health, autonomy, voices, historical factors, support and group development.
Professor Fredericks said that the group "put a lot of thought and planning into our presentation, which was well attended".
"We were really surprised and rewarded for our planning when we were featured as one of the five highlights for Day One from the hundreds of presentations and activities," Professor Fredericks said.
The presentation group members have been invited to present at the International Women's Health Conference in Thailand in October later this year.
