Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Annual Gentle Arts exhibition opens 

Rockhampton’s Gentle Arts Society has officially opened its 12th annual exhibition at Central Queensland University’s early childhood building in Quay Street, Rockhampton.

PhotoID:841 The Gentle Arts Society, with the help of the CQU Art Collection and curator, will exhibit more than 250 new pieces.

Gentle Arts committee member Ros McKendry said about 100 artists within a 50km radius of Rockhampton have contributed to the exhibition, with all exhibition pieces being displayed for the first time.

Exhibited pieces will include cross-stitch, stump work, quilts, creative embroidery, teddy bears and crewel work.

CQU curator Deann Campbell said this was the third year the CQU Art Collection had helped stage the Gentle Arts annual exhibition.

“Community involvement is very important to the CQU Art Collection and the Gentle Arts Societyis just one of the community partners of the Collection.” The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday, July 4, to Sunday, July 6 (from 10am to 4pm).
