Publicise your hard work

CQU has been successful placing articles and stories for print and broadcast media about our research/researchers who make known interesting news and developments. Algae, Sports Medicine, koalas, sleep deprivation, health at the workplace, artificial intelligence, domestic violence, the sugar cane industry, and horticulture are just some of the research areas covered the last few months.
CQU Public Relations (PR) is working closely with the Office of Research to give you the best opportunities to publicise your hard work and results. PR can help you and your students develop and write your story ideas for the media. Stories are generally pitched to print and broadcast journalists by providing articles, which are no more than a page long, A4 size. They have to be clear and understandable and not academic - they need to be informal, journalistic. The audience is not likely to be familiar with the discipline you are working in. Many will not have the depth or detailed knowledge that you have.
The best way to write (or talk) about your research for a general audience is to make it less formal, like you’re talking directly to someone about what you did, how you did it, what you found, and why the findings are significant or interesting.
Consider submitting a brief description of the research to the PR Mgr, Mike Donahue - or give him a call. It doesn’t have to be research you have completed. It can be research you’re still working on. He’ll follow-up with a photo-shoot and interview that he’ll conduct. The process is relatively painless.
