CQU to research drought impact on small business

The Queensland Government is developing a research project with CQU's Institute for Sustainable Regional Development (ISRD) to help small business in regional and rural areas cope with drought.
Small Business Minister Chris Cummins this week announced that Queensland will share the research results with other Australian jurisdictions.
"Small business in regional and remote areas can be seriously affected by drought as the incomes of the communities they service come under pressure," he said.
"Given the frequency of drought across the country, we need programs that recognise drought as an ongoing reality of doing business in regional and remote Australia.
"Drought should be met by long-term strategies rather than just with a crisis management approach".
Mr Cummins said the project would focus on the ways in which small businesses could prepare for drought by managing risks associated with climate change.
"Case studies will reveal common issues and strategies used to manage drought".
