Cinderella goes head-to-head with Snow White at CQCM Mackay

Fairy tales do come true for Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music performance student Matt Fennell.

Despite constant teasing from his high school peers, Mackay’s own Billy Elliot has dreamt of being a choreographer since Year 11.

PhotoID:849 “By Year 12 the students realised that I was just as passionate about dancing as they were about football,” he said.

“They could also see the success I was having because I was winning the school thousands of dollars so they began respecting my interest in dance.

As CQCM’s only male choreographer Mr Fennell will present a collection of contemporary fairy tales on May 9 to highlight a number of social issues.

“I have used fairy tales to deal with issues that people face in real life.

“Fairy tales are the easiest way of challenging these issues because the audience can identify the stereotype of the character as most people have an understanding of common fairy tales.
