Beef Week Starts with Violins, Not Guitars

The boys from the bush may be back in town but Beef 2003 will start with the strains of a Stringfest, not a country band.

The Stringfest in the Chapel concert this Saturday night (April 26) is a lead-up to the massed orchestral items planned for the Beef 2003 Opening Ceremony at Rockhampton Showgrounds on Sunday April 27.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the Stringfest event, from 8pm Saturday at St Paul's Cathedral (corner of William and Alma streets).

This concert will feature the newly-formed Central Queensland String Orchestra under the baton of Brisbane guest conductor, Michael Morgan.

Also coming from Brisbane are members of the Russell Street String Quartet who will perform as guest artists.

Members of the Central Queensland String Orchestra are advanced string players from around the Central Queensland region, including Rockhampton, Mackay and Gladstone.

They will present a program of well-known melodies, including Irish Tune From County Derry, Romance from The Gadfly, Bach’s Double Violin Concerto, Saint Paul’s Suite and many others.

Admission to the concert is $5 and tickets can be purchased at the door. Stringfest is an initiative of CQU's Central Queensland Conservatorium of Music and is supported by Green Brothers.
