Discovering CQU Bundaberg

For many of the local community that had never visited the Bundaberg Campus of CQU, their participation in the Campus Open Evening, Discover CQU, was a real eye opener.
“I hadn’t realised that there was so much here – there’s a lot more on offer than I expected,” said one potential student, adding “I just thought I’d pop out and see what was available, but now I can’t wait to get my QTAC form in!” Being in such a well hidden location with beautiful leafy surrounds has its advantages and disadvantages – one of which is the misconception in the local community that we’re still relatively small,” said Sue Sargent, Community Relations Officer.
But with over 170 participants last Thursday evening, the campus is rapidly dispelling any such myths.
Visitors were matched with mentors for a tour of the facilities, allowing them to see a live ISL, hear plans for the Campus expansion and even check out a damaged eardrum through an otoscope in the clinical labs.
Next on the schedule was an introduction to university life and the faculties, before participants had to head off to their first lecture / tutorial choosing between Peter Reaburn, Faculty of Arts, Health and Sciences, \"Exercise in the Heat - can we tolerate it?\" Stacey Cunningham, Faculty of Business & Law discussing “Environmental Disclosure,” and Seth Keen and Grayson Cooke, Faculty of Informatics and Communication with their presentation “Mulch - An Audiovisual VJ Presentation.” For some, life will never quite be the same again.
The evening was rounded off with a one-on-one course and enrolment advice session.
(LHS) Plenty of advice on hand – this was the view at the AHS stand.
(RHS) Peter Reaburn’s presentation “Exercise in the Heat – can we tolerate it” proved to a popular topic on the night.
