Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Sydney alumnus recognised on international stage 

CQUniversity MBA alumnus Shen Dade was a finalist at this year's Australia China Alumni Awards. Although Shen did not take out an award, it was a great achievement to have been shortlisted amongst 150 keen contenders.

He was nominated in the Australian Education International Young Alumnus of the Year category.

Thousands of Chinese students have studied in Australia since the 1970s and the Awards have brought some of their brightest success stories to light, such as Media and CIT Award winner Jenny Zhu who leads up ChinesePod's popular on-line Chinese language-learning program and Matthew Ng, founder and CEO of China's third-largest online travel company,

Vice-Chancellor Professor Scott Bowman said it was great to see a CQUniversity graduate being recognised at an international level amongst such exceptional talent.

Shen graduated with an MBA from CQUniversity's Sydney campus back in 2006 and later joined China Guangdong Nuclear Group, where he is the Overseas Business Manager.

China Guangdong Nuclear Group is a clean energy group, which focuses on developing nuclear power for use as a safe and environmentally-friendly source of power.

Shen is responsible for developing international linkages within the company. He is predominantly responsible for the South Africa nuclear market, and also works on building capacity in the Vietnamese, Thai and Malaysian markets.

He was previously the Training Manager in the Human Resource Department of Guangdong Da Ya Bay Nuclear Power Service Group, and was recently admitted into a PhD program at the Dalian University of Technology.

CQUniversity's Director of Development and Graduate Relations Suzi Blair said in recognition of the importance of the Chinese education and alumni relations market, CQUniversity is a foundation gold partner in the Australia China Alumni Association (the awards organiser).

The Australia China Alumni Awards were sponsored by ANZ, CPA Australia, Qantas, AEI, Austrade and AusAID.
