Engaging Indigenous people within Higher Ed

CQUniversity's Office of Indigenous Engagement recently hosted a visit from the Oodgeroo Unit of Queensland University of Technology (QUT), at Rockhampton Campus.

Professor Anita Lee Hong, Director of the Oodgeroo Unit, and Lone Pearce, Project Officer, met with Office of Indigenous Engagement staff to discuss employment issues and best practice models for engaging Indigenous people within the higher education sector, including governance matters.

Psycho-Social Health program welcomes adjunct professor 

The International Program of Psycho-Social Health Research (IPP-SHR) at CQUniversity is pleased to announce that Dr David Henderson, former Medical Director of Redland Hospital, has joined the team as Adjunct Associate Professor.

Dr Henderson instigated IPP-SHR's research into professional ethics in medicine at Redland Hospital, and is principal investigator in the current research exploring successful integration of overseas-trained doctors into the Australian health workforce.

"We are delighted to welcome Dr Henderson to the team," said NHMRC Senior Research Fellow and IPP-SHR Director, Dr Pam McGrath.

"David brings a wealth of experience and passion as well as strong industry links to the program. His extensive clinical experience and background in ethics and development of training programs for overseas-trained doctors will be used to further boost research into these important areas."

Doctor Henderson was Director of Medicine at Redland Hospital from 1999 until 2007.

He is a trained coordinator with the Australian Council of Heath Care Standards, a member of the Complaints Advisory Committee of the Medical Board of Queensland and has been a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee of Bayside Health District Service.

Dr Henderson has more than 40 years' clinical experience as a specialist in internal medicine and rheumatology, both in Australia and the United Kingdom, and has been actively involved in clinical training and examination of medical students.

He has held positions with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Australian Medical Association and the Arthritis Foundation of Australia.

IPP-SHR is a collaborative initiative jointly funded by CQUniversity Australia and the National Health & Medical Research Council. It aims to document and examine the human experience of serious illness and 'make a difference' to those at the coalface of healthcare.
